Official 2008 Tax Rebate Schedule
Official Tax Rebate Schedule
Below is the actual tax rebate schedule that the IRS will follow once the initial tax filing period for tax year 2007 ends on April 15, 2008. It was determined that the best way to address with the distribution of these funds was to produce an actual schedule much like is done with the normal tax refunds.
You see those "refund schedules" posted in the offices of many of the tax preparation business and for the most part, when you do e-file, the schedule is pretty accurate based on previous statistics regarding tax returns.
The schedule is only pertinent if you file your tax return for the 2007 tax year, by April 15th. No ifs, ands or buts about it. For those people who are chronically late filing their taxes, this was thought to be a good incentive to finally file on time this year. Remember, if you file late after the April 15th deadline but the government owes you a refund instead of you owing more taxes to the government then there is no penalty. So the tax payers that consistently get tax refunds actually get lax and file late as often as they file on time.
Now for those who file by the April 15th deadline your payments will be distributed according to the last two numbers of the main tax filers Social Security number. This is usually the name that appears first on your tax return. Also remember that the IRS asks that you retain the same order of the placements of your names each year that you file your tax return. It has been noted that switching these names (married filing a joint return) has caused delays in refunds.
Tax rebate checks will be distributed in the same manner that you requested your regular tax refund to be issued to you. In other words, if you requested a direct deposit of your tax return this year, then this rebate check also will be directly deposited. If you had your refund issued by a check in the mail, then this rebate check will also be mailed by the postal service.
You will also note that those people who use direct deposit will be the first ones to receive their tax rebate checks this year. The direct deposit distribution is scheduled to take all of 3 weeks. For those who will be waiting for the proverbial "check in the mail", they will have to wait out an exhausting 9 weeks worth of mailings and these mailings won't even begin until the direct deposit distributions have ended.
The Official 2008 Tax Rebate Schedule is as follows:
DIRECT DEPOSITS
If your last two Social Security Numbers are: Payment will be electronically transmitted:
00 through 20 May 2
21 through 75 May 9
76 through 99 May 16
PAPER CHECKS MAILED
If your last two Social Security Numbers are: Payments will be mailed by:
00 through 09 May 16
10 through 18 May 23
19 through 25 May 30
26 through 38 June 6
39 through 51 June 13
52 through 63 June 20
64 through 75 June 27
76 through 87 July 4
88 through 99 July 11
For those who file late this year they will begin to get their payments about 2 to 3 weeks after they receive their tax refund. This does not mean that you can file late and get your rebate check quicker than the schedule above. You will not receive your tax rebate check any quicker than it is outlined here. No matter what, in order to get this years tax rebate and to receive a tax rebate check you MUST file your tax return by October 15th.
